hypnotherapy
what is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic practice that uses guided hypnosis to help a client reach a trance-like state of: physical, mental and emotional relaxation; diminished peripheral awareness and heightened internal awareness and concentration. This is a natural state that you have probably experience in everyday life, such as when you are daydreaming, meditating, driving or watching a film, where you lose track of time.
While in this trance-like state, a person is unusually responsive to an idea or image, but they are not under anyone’s “control.” Instead, a trained clinical hypnotherapist can help clients to relax and turn their attention inward to discover and utilise resources that can help them manage or change unhelpful thinking or behaviours, better manage pain or other physical concerns, gain insight into and heal the underlying cause of issues, or have a better understanding of themselves and what they want from life.
The hypnosis session is often followed by reflections, discussions and/or counselling. Clients will often be given homework to complete between sessions. Over time, a client learns how to address their states of awareness on their own and is empowered to gain greater control of their physical and psychological responses, in order to help them to lead a healthier and more fulfilling life.

frequently asked questions
Can everyone be hypnotised?
The hypnotic state is a natural trance like state that you have probably experienced in everyday life, such as when daydreaming, reading or meditating. During your first session I will check your hypnotisability. Most people have the ability to be hypnotised.
Will I be under the Hypnotherapists power?
Hypnosis used in stage shows is a form of entertainment. It is different from hypnotherapy which is a therapeutic tool and should only be carried out by a qualified practitioner. A Clinical Hypnotherapist facilitates and guides a hypnosis session in consultation and with the permission of the client. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, therefore, you can choose to accept or reject any suggestions made during the hypnosis session.
What will it feel like to be hypnotised?
For some clients, when they are experiencing hypnosis, their breathing slows down, they feel more physically, mentally and emotionally relaxed with a greater awareness and more concentrated attention on their inner world. While other clients just feel more alert and focussed.
How many sessions will I need?
Hypnotherapy can help clients to transform their lives, however, it is not magic and clients problems are rarely solved in one session. It is a therapeutic process that requires commitment and effort from the individual and I usually see clients for a minimum of 3 sessions and an average of 6-8 sessions. The initial session takes 1.5hrs, to allow enough time for me to get to know you better and to gain a better understanding of what you would like to work on. Subsequent sessions are 1hr and all sessions are $135.

This is a wonderful relaxation technique, that can be used for grounding, when you’re feeling anxious or having a panic attack, to help you get in the zone for sleep or any time that you would like to feel more relaxed. You are welcome to use it as often as you need, but it is best not to use while driving.
